Quantum in the Cloud

Disruptive technologies exist because the need for them demands it.  Whether or not we can identify that need is another matter entirely.  I wrote an article around 10 years ago citing the computing power behind the cloud systems out there and it seems that the systems have indeed, as predicted, evolved to a consumer delivery model for computing services.  For example, cloud gaming, has an appeal to those who cannot afford high end gaming PCs or consoles, the step is in the right direction to disseminating computing power to the end users.  If Microsoft is capable of cloud gaming at this level, who knows what they can do at the cloud computational level?

I have not done any research lately concerning this as I am heavily working on other things always, that said, my thoughts on this are that they (as in everyone doing research on quantum computing) are scrambling to get quantum computers to a functional and profitable way to process information at room temperature.  Wait and see, once a reliable quantum computer exists, that company will be able to sell off quantum cloud computational services to the masses. Personally, what I would do, depending on how fast it is, is create a cloud infrastructure completely around it using a cloud/quantum hybrid to provision virtual machines that utilize that power. Pay by the scale, small, easy, simple, yet, fast, could be cheap/free to start small, but if you want bigger computational power, pay by the scale. Want something that can model your entire database of ocean and air currents to predict weather for the entire planet? Well, you can.

With artificial intelligence gaining traction alongside the computational power of these new AI models, there is no limit on what we can model.

Funding in these areas will cause an innovative spike in technology capable of solving many problems we currently encounter. Consider an AI model capable of learning and adapting when doling out cash to certain key areas to lower crime, for example. Or to model the cost of implementing a universal basic income and calculate the socio-economic impact in seconds.
