Just over the last year I have encountered at least three attempts (who knows how many actual attempts there were) to hack my Discord account and one successful hack on my son’s account. They rendered his account useless and Discord is not willing to clean up their system of hacked accounts. It is ridiculous. In addition, one of the authenticator apps they use requires you do PAY money to authenticate. No one should pay anything to authenticate any account! This makes me suspicious of their intent. There is nothing stopping these people from giving people a false sense of security while encouraging behind the scenes hacking activities to raise profits.
That said, these so called authenticator apps are practically useless and are a tool to render the account inaccessible to the actual owner of the account and you cannot create a new account with that same email. This is very important to point out because it means that as long as you have a QR code or a auth code to set up the authenticator in Discord you can thus link the authenticator to any Discord account regardless of the credentials, such as another hacked account and so on. There is no way to fix it because Discord has set up a very poor authentication system that requires you to enter three different codes and a password just to log in. This is a recipe for disaster and evidently so.
Bottom line is, Discord may be a fun app, but I would question their every move when it comes to security. My information on their servers is not safe, plain and simple. I have no confidence that they will repair this either. So good luck out there, and avoid the cesspool of hackers that Discord proudly and evidently promotes.
